Challenge
ECVT, an energy cooperative whose mission is to provide members with energy and related services at the lowest possible prices, needed a website that helped inform prospective members about the co-op, determine online whether or not the co-op currently services their neighborhood, and obtain the forms necessary to join. The logo was strong and had been recently redesigned, but was underutilized in the original website.
Solution
Athena collaborated closely with ECVT to create a site design which played off the logo and extended the ECVT brand image to the web with a fresh, inviting and easy-to-navigate design. The client was most interested in providing a professional, simple site that's fast to load and provides high usability.
Our solution included:
- Equipping the site with highly intuitive navigation, providing effortless access to information.
- Making the site quick to load by minimizing graphics and eliminating fancy animation.
- Utilizing metatags, page titles and other means to optimize the site's placement with search engines and directories.
- Building a perl-based interactive tool that allows site visitors to query the ECVT service area using either town names or ZIP codes. This tool is integrated with the site's look and feel, and the results messages have been customized to include messages, images, and URLs.
Results
In the week after the site went live, ECVT had its first member join using the website.
